One teenager was killed and two others injured in a Wednesday night shooting near Northwestern University, officials said.
Police said gunfire erupted around 8:30 p.m. at Clark Street Beach, located less than half a mile from the college’s campus in Evanston, Illinois.
Three teenage victims were found at the scene, according to Evanston police.
One teen, roughly 18 or 19 years old, died from his injuries.
One 15-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while a second 15-year-old was treated for a minor gunshot wound.
“The incident does not appear to be a random act,” the department said.
None of the victims were affiliated with Northwestern, though the school issued a shelter-in-place alert out of an abundance of caution.
Two suspects were seen fleeing toward the campus in a sedan, Northwestern officials said.
The offenders are still at-large, but appear to have left the area.
The school lifted the active shooter alert at 11 p.m.
