What matters most is to experience a great romance, follow the stories of some of the best video game couples, or create your own. Be it games that have multiple romance options or ones that completely focus on dating, here are some must-play titles.
10 Rune Factory 4 Special
The Rune Factory series has released some great games with a plethora of dateable characters with various personalities and intriguing backgrounds. While some of their games did not allow dating at all, Rune Factory 4 Special allows you to date between six different potential partners or even choose to romance them all at the same time.
One downside of Rune Factory 4 is that it only allows heterosexual relationships, meaning if you play as a girl, you can only date guys and vice versa. Otherwise, it makes for a great cozy game with a lovely world, where you can slowly build relationships and even hold weddings.
9 Dragon Age: Inquisition
The Dragon Age franchise has released some of the most popular open-world role-playing games. With their amazing stories and intriguing characters, they make for hours of fun. Dragon Age: Inquisition, especially, lets you meet a variety of dateable characters, all with their own unique personalities and backgrounds.
Unfortunately, some of the character options get blocked according to your gender or race. Otherwise, you can take your time romancing your preferred candidates and enjoying the vast world together.
8 Catherine Full Body
Catherine Full Body is a great action-adventure puzzle game that deserves to get its own animated adaptation. You play as Vincent, a man who is afraid of commitment, and you meet three different love interests. Catherine is Vincent’s ideal woman—young and blonde, the opposite of his girlfriend.
There are 13 possible endings in the game, including happy and bad ones. Your interactions throughout the game determine which ending you get. Catherine Full Body is maybe more focused on Vincent’s desires than romance, but it’s still a great game to play.
7 Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
The Assassin’s Creed series has offered lots of romantic interests throughout its stories, but Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey has the most options. It manages to create a great hub world with lots of dateable characters, be they male or female. As it is based on Ancient Greece, relationships are more inclined to be short-lived.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is still an action-adventure game and has no major love storylines, but it lets you have trysts and affairs with a ton of characters.
6 Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is another great cozy farming game with a plethora of great characters to interact with. You can choose whether you want to romance any of them or not, but having a partner makes farm life a bit easier. There are lots of great characters to date and even marry, with no restrictions on gender.
You start your relationship slowly by interacting with your love interest daily and gifting them their favorite items. At some point, you can ask them to marry you and move into your farm. You can also choose to have kids together and raise a happy family.
5 Wannabe Challenge
For anyone who loves Korean dramas and otome games, this is the best romance adventure for you. Wannabe Challenge is a free dating simulator with some supernatural elements. If you are familiar with K-dramas, then you may notice some similarities with My Love From The Star. You play as an unlucky girl whose fate is interwoven with goblins.
Wannabe Challenge offers you a bittersweet romance with great music, art, and memorable voice acting. The gameplay is simple yet fun, and you get to dress up, date your love interests, and learn more about the story as you progress.
4 Clannad
Clannad is one of the greatest visual novels so far and is sure to make you cry with its bittersweet romance. In case you do not want to play the game, you can watch the anime instead, but whichever you choose, have tissues nearby.
Depending on how you interact with the characters, you can end up with many different endings. There are lots of love interests and more than ten routes, some romantic and others more humorous. Clannad has a rich story to explore and deep dialogues, making you engrossed from the start.
3 Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X gave us one of the most beautiful and bittersweet romance stories of the Final Fantasy series. As a standalone game, and if you ignore the after-credits scene, it makes for the greatest love story.
You start by playing Tidus, the young protagonist with a complicated relationship with his father. Later, Tidus meets Yuna, the heroine of the story, and slowly falls in love with her. The duo sets off on an adventure together to defeat the powerful final boss, with lots of twists and challenges along the way.
2 The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a great immersive RPG that offers you lots of dateable characters, two of whom are the main love interests, and more than five quick affairs. In order to date or romance these characters, you will need to flirt and interact with them, as well as give them gifts.
The ending changes depending on who you choose as your partner. By choosing Triss Merigold, you will continue with your Witcher duties, but if you choose Yennefer, you both will completely retire and move far away.
1 Psychedelica Of The Black Butterfly
Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly is a great adventure otome game. You play as a young girl who has lost all her memories and awakens in a weird mansion. While you are trying to solve the game’s mystery, you encounter several young men in the same situation as you.
There may not be a lot of romance scenes, but romantic tension definitely exists between your character and the love interest. There is also no shortage of tender moments, and the voice acting together with the music make for an immersive experience.
