Damaris Lewis is a multihyphenate: model, dancer, actress, philanthropist and sports broadcast host. The three-time SI Swimsuit model made her debut in 2009 in Turkey with photographer Yu Tsai and returned to the publication the following two years. In ’10, she traveled to Palm Springs, Calif., with Walter Chin, and in ’11, she was captured in Sentosa Island, Singapore by Steve Erle.

The Brooklyn-born and raised model danced throughout her childhood and was signed to Elite Model Management in high school. Lewis hosted TNT’s NBA Style and NBA TV for a few years and in 2016, she cohosted ESPN’s City Slam Dunk Competition.

The 32-year-old has been featured in campaigns for Clarins, MAC, L’Oréal and Yves Saint Laurent, and has appeared in magazines including Essence, French Marie Claire, Self, Cosmopolitan and GQ. She’s also worked as an actress and appeared in a few episodes of the superhero series Titans as the character Blackfire.

Lewis’s debut SI Swimsuit photo shoot in Cappadocia, Turkey, was a memorable one because of a magnificent hot air balloon ride.

“We all woke up at 5:30 in the morning. Randall Grant, he used to do behind-the-scenes photography. We got up in that hot air balloon and Randall was taking pictures of me, and everybody was in the balloon,” she recalled of her time on location in 2009. “And coming from Coney Island, you don’t really see aerial views that spectacular, and architecture like that I had never seen before. That was a defining moment when I knew travel needed to be a part of my life. But also, there’s no steering wheel in a hot air balloon. It’s the utmost trust you can have in the elements or the wind. Turkey was the trip for me that really opened my eyes and changed the game for me.”
