KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17: At least 12 people lost their lives in a typhoon that swept through large swaths of land across the Philippines, the country’s meteorological agency reported on Friday. The storm, called Rai, was at its peak when it ravaged the island of Siargao on Thursday, fueled with gales roaring at a speed of 195 km/h, the agency said, indicating that ferocity of the storm subsided today.
The typhoon uprooted many trees, demolished houses, power poles and caused communication cut in many areas, while authorities scrambled to evacuate more than 300,000 people who were directly affected with the stormy weather. (KUNA) —
