The British Open gets underway on Monday afternoon in Milton Keynes, with an extended format after its return to the calendar last year.

The tournament was reintroduced last season but with most games played over just a best of five frames. Mark Williams triumphed and picked up a very healthy £100,000 top prize in the process.

The event has changed this time around, with the first four rounds played over best of sevens, the quarter-finals best of nine, semi-finals best of 11 and final a best of 19.

The extended matches mean we have already had qualifying for the British Open, with only the world’s top 16 playing their first round matches at the venue in Milton Keynes on Monday.
