2023 Ferrari Purosangue – The Prancing Horse Has Evolved

0

Rumors about it were thrown around in the automotive world for years. Was Ferrari, the purist Italian automaker, going to follow the rest of the herd and jump into the SUV market? Wouldn’t Enzo turn in his grave, hearing such news?

Despite the controversy, Ferrari Purosangue is here to stay and impress. There is no surprise Ferrari absolutely refuses to call this an SUV. It turns over 75 years of resistance against the concept. Although Enzo was pleased with the 4-door Pininfarina concept, he would blatantly refuse anything tall and wide that didn’t resemble a race car.

Italian Lines Flow Everywhere

Briefly, Purosangue looks nothing like the existing Ferrari lineup – indicating a turning point in design philosophy and for the company itself. Flowing lines, a consistent aerobridge and a subtle, discrete silhouette are proof of Italian design tradition flowing all over Purosangue.

On the inside, the dashboard is a work of art like Ferrari never delivered before. Two lines arch high then meet in the middle, hosting two screens and pointing towards the centrally mounted climate control. The center console extends far towards the rear, being interrupted by a slight empty space and then only to be continued by the rear seats console.

Power – 715 Glorious Horsepower

There is no hybrid or electric drivetrain available on the Purosangue. Instead, Ferrari went old-school with a beautiful orchestra of V-disposed 12 pistons accounting for 6.5-liters and 715 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque. This is no lightweight pony. Torque kicks in from as low as 2800RPM thanks to a revised intake and exhaust system. Furthermore, Ferrari engineers managed to set the front/rear weight distribution to a near-perfect 51/49.

Is the prancing horse taking the right approach by aiming at the crowded SUV market? Only time will tell. Purists are wincing at the idea but there are plenty of people out there looking for an ultra luxury SUV that’s not a Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus or Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
