Toyota is sending the 2023 RAV4 Hybrid into the wild with a new special edition designed specifically for off-road adventures.

Suspension tuning of the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition was left up to the pros at TRD, who modified coils, bump stops, and springs to soak up the expected natural protuberances the SUV will be rolling over and keep the cabin level. 

Suspension tuned by the Toyota Racing Division (TRD) is something that’s been experienced in the RAV4 before, including by one of Driving’s reviewers, who took a 2021 RAV4 TRD up and around the Niagara Escarpment last spring. But never before now has the division done up an 4X4 special edition hybrid SUV. 

The Woodland Edition has a number of visual distinctions, including projector-beam headlights and integrated fog lights; roof rack cross-bars up top; dual black chrome exhaust tips; black badging; and black mud guards. Falken Wildpeak AT tires will meet the mud and are mounted on bronze-coloured wheels for “greater strength.” 

Available exterior finishes include Midnight Black Metallic, Cavalry Blue, and White. All 2023 RAV4 models come standard with all-wheel-drive and Toyota’s latest multimedia system, which allows for over-the-air updates and has the now-expected Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. 

Other interior additions that could come in handy in the backwoods include the 120-volt outlet in the rear cargo area that can charge or run devices like laptop computers; and the reversible cargo mat. 

Pricing for the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition has not been released, but should follow before the model’s release this summer.
