On the corporate website of the WWE, it was notified that Payback 2023 PPV edition will go down at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 2. With that, rumours of another international WWE PLE in that month were put to rest.
Payback is thus making its way back to WWE programming for the first time since the summer of 2020. On August 30 of that year, Roman Reigns was sworn in as the Universal Champion, a reign that has now surpassed 1000 days.
The upcoming edition will also serve as Pittsburgh’s first WWE premium live event since Extreme Rules 2018. Tickets for the will begin on Tuesday, June 27 at 10 AM EST via TicketMaster. Fans can also register for pre-sale opportunities.
Interestingly, WWE has announced Payback 2023 during the Labor Day weekend when their rival brand All Elite Wrestling generally hosts All Out pay-per-view. The date for the PPV’s 2023 edition is yet to be officially announced.
Back in 2022, WWE hosted Clash at the Castle on September 3, followed by the NXT Worlds Collide the next day during the All Out weekend in AEW. WWE is seemingly eager to keep up the healthy competition.
However, there’s no confirmed update on whether 2023 All Out will be happening or not as AEW All In is scheduled just a week prior in the UK. AEW President Tony Khan admittedly wants All Out to remain on their schedule.
In 2013, WWE Payback was included for the first time in their pay-per-view calendar, replacing No Way Out. It became a yearly event from 2013 to 2017. For a one-off occasion, it returned in 2020 and now it’s set to deliver the overall seventh installment.
With the confirmation of Payback, WWE now has five premium live events scheduled in their calendar until next year’s spring including Wrestlemania. You can check out the announced PLE schedule as given below:
– WWE Money in the Bank (July 1 from the O2 Arena in London, England)
– WWE SummerSlam (August 5 from the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan)
– WWE NXT Great American Bash (July 30 at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas)
– WWE Payback (September 2 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
– WWE Wrestlemania 40 (April 6/7 from the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
As mentioned above, Payback was announced as part of the WWE’s 2023 touring schedule alongside which seven more Raw and Smackdown events were announced for which tickets will be out next Friday, June 23. The new set of future events is given below:
