Cadillac has pulled the sheets from its revised XT4 crossover, pressing the model’s user experience forward with new technologies atop the same four-cylinder bones as before.

Driving previewed the updated model in a Detroit-area GM presentation space, where the new ‘Emerald Lake Metallic’ paint colour stood particularly handsomely under studio lights.

Inside, the XT4 gets the new 33-inch infotainment display debuted on the Cadillac Lyriq. This system deploys Android Automotive OS to slick and intuitive effect, though we aren’t placing too much weight on GM’s claims that it should impress users enough for them to ditch their Apple CarPlay or Android Auto projection. Note that while some updates may be applied by connecting the car to wifi, these web-connected native services will require an OnStar subscription after the first three years, at a starting cost of $15 per month ($180 per year).

Fortunately, wireless device connectivity for both systems remains standard, and shoppers can further equip a wireless device charger for seamless use.

Among the XT4’s standard features are heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, interior accent lighting, a power liftgate, LED lighting, and active noise cancellation with noise-insulating laminated front glass. The XT4 also ships standard with GM’s current six-function safety suite, including lane-keep assistance, forward pedestrian detection and emergency braking, blind-spot steering intervention, GM’s nifty follow-distance timer, and a ‘Teen Driver Mode’ which enables parents to set limits and monitor driving habits.

Further feature-content highlights include available 14-speaker premium audio, head-up display, and ventilated and massaging front seats. Owing to the XT4’s expressed urban orientation (and a lack of advanced driver-assistance (ADAS) pressure from segment competitors), GM’s SuperCruise hands-off highway assist will not be available on the 2024 Cadillac XT4.

Available in front- and all-wheel drive configurations, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 carries forward the same turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine as when the vehicle launched back in 2018. Delivering 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, stated U.S. fuel economy figures for AWD models equate to 10.2 L/100 km city, 8.4 highway, and 9.4 L/100 km combined. This remains consistent with past experience; Driving has previously recorded a 9.9 L/100 km combined average in tests of earlier XT4s with this powertrain, though firm 2024 numbers will of course have to wait for our test drive of the facelifted model in the near future.

Managing this output is the same nine-speed automatic transmission — one which Driving reviewers haven’t been particularly fond of in past reviews of the platform.

The 2024 Cadillac XT4 arrives in three trims. Base ‘Luxury’ FWD models start from $44,798 in Canada. A twin-clutch all-wheel drive upgrade is available for a further $3,000, and GM representatives anticipate some 85 per cent uptake on all-wheel drive configurations.

The XT4’s all-wheel-drive ‘Sport’ and ‘Premium Luxury’ trims both sticker from $51,998 in Canada. Fully loaded, the 2024 XT4 will sticker around the $63,000 mark.
