After a year away from the market, the Chevy Trax is back for the 2024 model year with a new look, more room, and a cheaper price. The small SUV is available in five trims – LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and ACTIV – with all of them priced below the $25,000 mark. That alone should put the entry-level Bowtie’d vehicle on the radar for shoppers.

But there’s also more room this year, something the modern driver appreciates, even in the small SUV segment. The new Trax is longer, lower, and wider than the current model, granting it more room for legs and gear inside and helping to give it a more serious profile. It rides four inches (101 mm) lower in overall height, gains two inches in width, and has a nearly six inch longer wheelbase that translates to 11 inches more in overall length. Inside, this means three inches more of rear legroom and a 12-per-cent boost to max cargo capacity (25.6 cu ft behind the rear seat and 54.1 cu ft with the rear seat folded).

Designers borrowed cues from the current Chevy Blazer to bring some more athleticism to the all-new Trax, including with the new LED headlamps inspired by the bigger SUV. Inside, things have an intentional “lightweight feel,” building up from a low instrument panel flanked by round vents and centred by the screens which themselves vary by trim. Wheels tell some of the trim story, with 17-inchers on the LT and LS, 18s on the 1RS and ACTIV, and 19s on the 2RS.

An 8-inch-diagonal infotainment touchscreen comes standard in the LS and 1RS trims, while the LT, 2RS, and ACTIV trims include an 11-inch-diagonal infotainment touchscreen and an 8-inch-diagonal driver info centre. Regardless of which screens are present, all will now grant wireless access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other interior differences between trims include a racing-inspired flat-bottom wheel in the 2RS, special Evotex seats with yellow accents in the ACTIV, black bowtie emblems in the RS and ACTIV, and heated front seats (plus mirrors and steering wheel) and remote start in the 1RS, 2RS, and ACTIV.

The optional spec sheet includes additional cup and bottle holders; a sunroof; an electronic parking brake that frees up storage space in the console; wireless phone charging on the LT, 2RS, and ACTIV; and the heated seat and remote start option for the LS. Chevrolet’s rear-vision camera and Safety Assist package is standard, too, the latter packing the Trax with six driver-assist technologies like automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and departure warning, forward collision alert, and follow distance indicator.
Power comes from a 1.2L turbocharged inline-three engine that GM says should make 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission pushing power to the front wheels exclusively. That’s right: only FWD tracks will be put down by the new Trax.
Pricing opens at $21,495 for the LS; $23,195 for the 1RS; $23,395 for the LT; and $24,995 each for the 2RS and ACTIV. The 2024 Chevrolet Trax will go on sale in the spring of 2023.
