Having introduced an all-new GMC Canyon for 2023, the automaker is now treating off-road fans with the 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition. The new trim builds on the AT4X trim with extra features, including components from off-road component and vehicle supplier AEV (American Expedition Vehicles).
GMC already has AEV Editions on the Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD 2500, and the addition of the Canyon makes the trim available on all GMC lines. Chevrolet also offers AEV options on its Silverado and Colorado.
The new AEV Edition includes a factory-installed 114-mm (4.5-inch) lift kit, which raises it 38 mm (1.5 inches) above the regular Canyon AT4X; ground clearance is 310 mm (12.2 inches). The AEV beadlock-capable Salta wheels wear 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T tires, and there’s an AEV in-bed vertical mount for the spare tire.

The truck includes an updated front fascia and larger fender flares; AEV stamped-steel front and rear bumpers with heavy-duty recovery points and front winch capability; five hot-stamped boron underbody skid plates; and AEV branding on the bumpers, head restraints, and floor liners.
The truck achieves a front approach angle of 38.2 degrees; breakover of 26.9 degrees; and 26.0-degree departure angle. The rear bumper’s corners can be removed as needed for trail accessibility.

On both the 2024 Canyon AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition, the “Baja” drive mode now adds launch control, where the driver simultaneously presses the brake and throttle, and then releases the brakes for quicker acceleration performance. The feature “learns” the driving surface, such as sand versus firm footing, and adjusts the engine’s performance on subsequent launches.
Also new on the 2024 Canyon lineup is GM’s Ultifi software platform, which allows over-the-air (OTA) software updates, including the ability to add new features or services as they become available.
The Canyon is built in Wentzville, Missouri, and the 2024 AT4X AEV Edition is planned to be available for ordering later this year, with pricing revealed closer to that date.
