2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited and TRD Sport get the company’s logo on their grille, while TRD Pro and Trailhunter feature old-school TOYOTA lettering

Tacoma entered its 30th year in USA recently and to commemorate three decades of rugged reliability, Toyota will launch its new Tacoma later this year. 2024 Toyota Tacoma features a brand-new design language and famed TNGA-F platform underpins it. For markets like India and a few ASEAN nations, variations of this new Tacoma will launch as Fortuner SUV and Hilux pickup truck.

Toyota is launching four variations of Tacoma. The luxurious Limited trim with chrome grille and wheels (most likely to be Fortuner in India), TRD Sport, the hardcore TRD Pro and trail-worthy Trailhunter. Toyota will launch them in the USA later this year and other markets will get them later.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Debuts – Best Tacoma yet?

The all-new design language looks mean and burly. Far more burlier than outgoing Tacoma. 2024 Toyota Tacoma will go head-to-head with other mid-size pickup trucks like Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier Pro and Ford Ranger (SUV version is Endeavour). Only Frontier and Ranger offer V6 engine options.

Tacoma offers a hybrid powertrain branded I-Force Max like on a Tundra, but coupled with an in-line 4 motor. Speaking of the hybrid powertrain, new Tacoma comes equipped with a 2.4L turbocharged in-line 4 engine, paired with a 1.9 kWh battery and a 48 bhp electric motor.

Tacoma Limited

Buyers can choose between a manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic. Even though Tacoma’s 326 bhp is less than Ranger’s 405 bhp, the former makes 630.45 Nm, which is more than Ranger’s. RWD with an LSD (Limited Slip Diff) is standard with base SR and SR5 trims.

4WD models get a two-speed transfer case (high and low range ratios), TCS, and LSD. Top spec I-Force Max powertrain gets full-time 4WD and a center locking diff as well. Off-road credentials include a 33.8-degree approach angle, a 23.5-degree departure angle and a 25.7-degree breakover angle.

Rugged dependability with macho design

Exterior design is very macho on 2024 Toyota Tacoma. A large gaping grill is flanked by sleek and stylish headlights. There is a Lexus LC500-like plastic trim below headlights and bumpers have sleek fog lights and a bash plate. TRD Pro is the most hardcore and Trailhunter is geared towards adventurous audiences, facilitating expeditions.

On the inside, an 8” infotainment touchscreen and 7” instrument cluster is standard. But higher trims come with a 14” touchscreen infotainment screen with a 12.3” instrument cluster. Qi wireless phone charger, digital rearview mirror, suspended and stabilized driver seat, 10-speaker JBL system with a removable JBL Bluetooth speaker, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are notable elements.

Toyota is offering different suspension for different models. For example, TRD Pro gets Fox shocks, while TRD Off-road gets Bilstein ones, TRD Sport gets TRD tuned ones and Trailhunter gets Old Man Emu shocks from ARB. 2024 Toyota Tacoma can tow around 3,000 kg and its payload capacity is 775 kg.

Tacoma TRD Sport

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite is onboard too along with Crawl Control feature which is basically cruise control in off-road situations. We can see the Tacoma Limited being the face of standard Fortuner SUV and Hilux pickup. While TRD Sport or TRD Pro’s face might translate into a GR-Sport model in the future. TKM might launch new gen Fortuner and Hilux in India in 2024 or beyond.
