23 deck chairs to bring the beach to your garden this summer

0

A deck chair is quite the nostalgic piece of garden furniture, stirring up memories of childhood seaside trips and balmy holidays of years gone by. Nowadays, deck chairs needn’t look like a candy stripe nurse’s uniform – though, you can still buy them – and, whether it be macrame or linen, retailers all have their own modern take on the traditional seaside staple.

For compact outdoor spaces and Britain’s testing weather, the deck chair is a safe bet. From their fold away structure to the removable (and usually washable) sling, they’re travel friendly and, with the addition of armrests on some, they’re usually pretty comfortable, too. Take Anthropologie’s Business & Pleasure chair at £248; complete with a pocket for valuables, a slim fold-flat design and a supportive neck pillow, it’s almost as plush as a (much less practical) garden armchair.

If your budget is more modest, look to ManoMano who are offering buyers a set of four chairs – perfect for guests – in a classic striped design for just £151.99 (less than £40 a chair!). Alternatively, consider investing in a good quality hardwood frame – like John Lewis’ – that’ll last and simply swap out the sling each time your garden decor needs a refresh. You can buy machine washable replacements in a variety of styles on Amazon.

How to clean deck chair canvas?

While some modern deck chair slings are machine washable – dreamy – others recommend buyers spot or wipe clean the fabric. For hard to shift stains, dab the canvas with a liquid laundry detergent and work it in with a soft brush or cloth; leave it to sit for a moment – approximately 10-15 minutes – and then, with a 1/8 tsp measure of detergent diluted in a litre of warm water, wipe away the stain with a cloth. You can use the same diluted solution to give the rest of the canvas a wipe, too.
