23 Sustainable Habits To Adapt In 2023

23 Sustainable Habits To Adapt In 2023

The whole world is talking about sustainability. Some are talking, some are arguing, some are really doing. Some do more, some do less. The most important thing is to do something. You. Me. Everyone. For our future. Here are 23 easy to adapt daily habits to kick off your New Year in a more conscious way.

  1. Start. Even if you start small. Start. Take one step after another. Don’t get overwhelmed or feel guilty by not being able to be 100% sustainable, nobody is.
  2. Ditch (plastic) bottled water, whenever you can. Filter your tab water instead.
  3. Replace to-go cups with a reusable to-go bottle/cup and carry one with you on your travels, or your way to work. And try to implement a reduced plastic consumption in your life by paying attention about the little details.
  4. Replace your car ride with a walk, whenever you can. Moving your body regularly has so many more positive benefits for your health, your mood and your stress levels.
  5. Consider taking the train instead of a plane for shorter travel distances.
  6. Offset your CO2 footprint. There are many websites and apps, that help you track you and your business to track and offset your CO2 footprint, by donating to causes that restore and protect the climate.
  7. When you travel, research before you book. Stay at hotels that are committed sustainable standards and are constantly to improving these.
  8. Spend your money on items, experiences and people you truly enjoy. It will fulfill you and make you feel happier on the long run.
  9. Purchase consciously. Consider buying from brands and shops, that are committed to sustainable development and reflect your values. It feels better owning or wearing items, especially luxury items, when you know there is good energy behind.
  10. Quality over Quantity. Consider buying one long-lasting, timeless good-quality item over 5 trendy items.
  11. Donate your unwanted clothes and items to charities instead of throwing them away. They can be re-used and help someone in need. It will make you feel good as well.
  12. Recycle your trash properly. Get to know your local recycling rules.
  13. Choose biodegradable alternatives, when purchasing home-products,
  14. Buy from local farmers.
  15. Eat seasonal. In-season fruits and veggies are not only healthier and more nourishing in vitamins, they’re also more sustainable.
  16. Don’t waste food. Don’t buy more than you need. Don’t order more at a restaurant, than you can eat.
  17. Connect with nature and appreciate all that it does, in order for us to exist on this planet.
  18. Educate yourself about Sustainability. The easiest way is to learn about the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Follow experts. Look up people, books or podcasts by people, who give advice on sustainability. Let them inspire you with helpful tips on the areas most important to you.
  19. Implement a more sustainable work philosophy into your business and work with stakeholders, that follow the same path.
  20. Think twice before printing unnecessary documents or emails, which you could instead easily archive digitally.
  21. Use recycled materials, when you send packages. Send true to size boxes, without filling them up with additional material, which will only be wasted.
  22. Plant trees under whose shade you don’t expect to sit. Support charities, that are close to your heart and you connect to. It will make you happy too.
  23. Teach your kids, what it means to grow up sustainably, from early on. They are our future. Tell your friends and family too. Inspire them by being a great example.

Happy 2023!
