The hit-friendly production house released these 25 feature films to little fanfare…
Blumhouse is back in the horror business this summer with the highly anticipated Joe Hill adaptation, The Black Phone.

But for every Sinister and Paranormal Activity, there have been a slew of Blumhouse-produced movies that never quite reach such great heights. With that in mind, I’ve rounded up 25 films from the Blumhouse library that you might have missed.

The Babymakers

2.
The Bay
Lions Gate / Courtesy Everett Collection
This found footage body horror flick never quite took off like other Blumhouse titles in the aforementioned subgenre, but is nonetheless somewhat notable for its pedigree behind the camera in director Barry Levinson, the filmmaker behind Rain Man, The Natural, and Wag the Dog.
3.
Plush
Automatik Entertainment / Album / Alamy
Twilight and Red Riding Hood filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke co-wrote and directed this erotic thriller starring Emily Browning as a grieving rock star whose new guitarist transforms from unexpected muse to a living, breathing nightmare.

7.
Jessabelle
Lions Gate / Courtesy Everett Collection
Before she established herself as one of the most compelling performers on television via her work on Succession, Sarah Snook headlined this supernatural horror film (which was delayed for nearly a year after being pulled from a wide theatrical release) about a young woman who discovers the unfathomable truth behind her family’s past after moving back home with her estranged father in Louisiana.
8.
Area 51
Paramount Pictures / Alamy
Oren Peli’s long-awaited (and delayed) directorial follow-up to Paranormal Activity was eventually released for a one-weekend run at Alamo Drafthouse theaters before being dumped to video-on-demand platforms, though the found footage film has found an unlikely surge in interest on streaming platforms in recent years.
9.
The Lazarus Effect
Relativity Media / Courtesy Everett Collection
Jiro Dreams of Sushi filmmaker David Gelb made his sole venture into fictional feature film directing with this undercooked horror thriller, the cast of which includes such stars as Olivia Wilde, Evan Peters, Donald Glover, and Mark Duplass.

12.
Visions
Blumhouse Productons / Chapter One Films / Album / Alamy

Jessica Alba, Lily Rabe, Reid Scott, and Thomas Jane round out the star-studded cast of Blumhouse’s overlooked, not-quite-found-footage fright film about the sole survivor of a Jonestown-esque suicide cult who escorts a documentary crew in their search for footage from their compound as inexplicable events begin taking place.

15.
Martyrs

While an attempt to remake one of the most gruesome and infamous films of the French New Extremism movement is somewhat of a futile gesture, Blumhouse certainly tried to do so to little acclaim from horror fans and critics alike in 2015.

16.
The Keeping Hours
Blumhouse Productions / Collection Christophel / Alamy

17.

The Resurrection of Gavin Stone
High Top Releasing / Courtesy Everett Collection
Blumhouse Productions and WWE Studios joined forces for this saccharine faith-based dramedy about a former child star (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Brett Dalton) whose court-ordered community service sends him to a lavish religious stage production that inspires him to confront his own moral compass.
19.
Birth of the Dragon
James Dittiger / BH Tilt / Everett Collection
From the director of The Adjustment Bureau, this misguided fictionalization of the events surrounding a private fight between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack-man was a critical pariah and a massive box office bomb upon its theatrical bow in 2016.
20.
Amityville: The Awakening
Blumhouse Productions / Alamy
A messy and ultimately forgotten reboot for the Amityville Horror franchise, The Awakening was delayed for more than two years after negative test screenings and reshoots before being bizarrely released by the Weinstein Company for free on Google Play.

From the longtime shepherd of The Purge franchise, this period piece drama about Staten Islanders who reevaluate their lifestyles and destiny following the release of Rocky III didn’t connect with critics during its video-on-demand run and barely registered with audiences when the film hit Netflix soon thereafter.
