Lately, Zion Williamson has made headlines for off-the-court reasons.
With reported frustration with his lack of availability and overall approach, the New Orleans Pelicans could look to trade the former No.1 overall pick by Thursday, the day of the 2023 NBA Draft.
Another reason is the Pelicans’ high interest in expected lottery pick Scoot Henderson, and it could take a Williamson type of package to move up in the draft and get him.
While there are conflicting reports about Williamson potentially being on the trading block, these three teams could trade for the star.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets have not had a superstar since Chris Paul, who spent six seasons with the franchise before moving on to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hornets have the coveted No.2 pick in the 2023 draft, which could be used in a package for Williamson.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets have plenty of young talent, a new championship head coach in Ime Udoka, and plenty of draft capital. The team could take that and offer New Orleans an interesting package for Williamson, including the No.4 pick in the 2023 draft.
New York Knicks
Could the New York Knicks go after Williamson? The Eastern Conference team still needs a nightly box office attraction in the world’s most famous arena, and Williamson (when healthy) could be just that. The Knicks also have the draft capital and player assets to make New Orleans an enticing offer.
