32 free summer concerts coming to Levitt Pavilion in Los Angeles

MacArthur Park is set to become a hot spot for live entertainment once again this summer with the return of the Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles musical series.

Now in its 16th year, the free series of music includes 32 weekend concerts in the northwest corner of the 140 year-old park nestled in this Westlake neighborhood.

“We’re excited to uplift and reflect the diversity of Los Angeles and all the various cultures that call L.A. home,” said Allegra Padilla, executive director of Levitt LA.

The series will highlight several genres of music from cumbia and salsa to rock and jazz and hip-hop and soul and will take place at 7-10 p.m. on Fridays-Saturdays and 5-8 p.m. Sundays starting June 10 through Sept. 3 (some hours may vary).

Season opens with Norteno EDM meets Ranchero with Nortec Bostich + Fussible, Nunca Jamas, La Banda Elástica DJ’s.

Sunday, June 11

Salsa, mambo, funk and soul are in the park with Boogaloo Assassins, DJ Clifton Weaver aka DJ Soft Touch.

Friday, June 16 

Romantic sounds meet cumbias this night with Ramona, Mexican Dubwiser, El Bad Buky.

Saturday, June 17

Get ready to dance to funky jazz tunes with the Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra, Brian Hargrove and DJ Mark Maxwell.

Sunday, June 18

It’s a Father’s Day house music party with a touch of  jazz touch when Utopia Tribe presents Utopia DJ’s: KG Superstar + DJ Adé, and Katalyst Collective.

Friday, June 23

Get romantic with boleros in a tribute to Mexican Composer Agustín Lara with performances by musicians Julian Torres, Marco Antonio Godoy, and Trio Casablanca.

Saturday, June 24 

40 Years of Radiotron, celebrating 50 years of Hip-Hop with King Tee, Kid Frost, Toddy Tee, Tha Union Station MC’s, Bgirl Deya Deyas, Beatboxing by Boxy Dee, DJ Rude One and others.

Sunday, June 25

Get the cowboy boots and hats ready because banda and Tex Mex are taking over with performances by Banda Las Angelinas and Los Rock Angels.

July

Friday, July 7

R&B artist Tolliver will bring the funk while drag and performance art collective Haus of Derma bring the rest of the party.

Saturday, July 8

This will be a night of Rock, cumbia and Mexican Folklorico with sets by Amandititita, El Conjunto Nuevo Ola and Pacifico Dance Company.

Sunday, July 9

LATV Presents a night of Latin alt-rock with Virrey, plus the sounds of Sirreño, which is an offshoot of Regional Mexican music, with Los Del Momento.

Friday, July 14

Go back to the day with a night of “souldies,” with Latino bands Los Yesterdays and Thee Illusions reinterpreting R&B classics.

Saturday, July 15

It’s a night of classic soul music with Soulection in the Park presents the Soulection DJs.

Sunday, July 16

A night of contemporary and traditional music as the United American Indian Involvement Inc. Presents: “Natives in the Now.”

Friday, July 21

It’s an outdoor house music dance party when MezcLA Fest presents: “House Issues” with DJs E.Dubb, Mayan Passion and  K-Bandit.

Saturday, July 22

Grammy winning Latin fusion stars La Santa Cecilia come home for this show. Get there early, this one will be packed.

Sunday, July 23

Centro Cultural Techantit presents: “Festival de Música Salvadoreña.” Performers include Roberto Dueñas, Luis Lopez, Will Echegoyen and others performing Folklorico and contemporary Salvadorian music.

Friday, July 28

Desert Daze Presents a night of Tuareg desert rock (desert blues that originated in the Sahara region of Africa) with a performance by the group Imarhan.

Saturday, July 29

An evening of hip-hop music with Monalisa, Inka One, Ben Diggin, DJ Analog and Mantron.

Sunday, July 30

Experience West African rhythms with Weedie Braimah & the Hands of Time and SK Kakraba.

Friday, Aug. 11

An evening with soul rocker Nick Waterhouse.

Saturday, August 12

Musical groups Flor Amargo, Los Jornaleros Del Norte and the Pacifico Dance Company bring a night of Norteño, Mexican Folklorico and pop.

Sunday, Aug. 13

Mundo Maya Foundation presents: “Mundo Maya Day.” The celebration will include Mayan music, ceremonies and dance performances by Lucas Critchfield Marimba Tropical, Homenaje al Maestro Armando Manzanero, Ballet Folklórico Eterna Juventud and others.

Friday, Aug. 18

Los Angeles locals The Paranoias will bring a night of Latin ska rock to the park.

Saturday, Aug. 19

Contemporary Pan-Asian music will be the focus of the AAX Fest.

Sunday, Aug. 20

Guatemala County Fair presents: “Guateama.” The night of Guatemalan rock and Mayan dance music will include sets by Marimba Orquesta Perla Oriental, Sara Curruchich, DJ Boris and Los Chapincitos Los Angeles.

Friday, Aug. 25

Indie rock and disco take the stage with Healing Gems and De Lux.

Saturday, Aug. 26

Claire McKeown, Daniel Crook, Sugarmill Slim and others pay tribute to the legendary David Bowie with a celebration to mark the 50-year anniversary of his album “Aladdin Sane.”

Sunday, Aug. 27

It’s classic dub and reggae night with DJ’s Tom Chasteen and Boss Harmony.

FilAm ARTS presents the Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture with a night of traditional and contemporary Filipino music dubbed “Para Sa Lahat.”

Saturday, Sept. 2

The Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture continues for second night headlined by percussionist and vocalist Gingee.

Sunday, Sept. 3

The season closes with a pop, jazz and Regional Mexican show with performances by Beatriz Solis, Eisner Intergenerational Orchestra from the Heart of Los Angeles.
