6 Professional Surfers Who Graced the Pages of the SI Swimsuit Issue

These six women are changing the game as athletes on the water.

Over the years, countless athletes who are making a name for themselves in their respective sports have graced the pages of the SI Swimsuit Issue. Between 2011 and ’20, that included six professional surfers who are each making a major splash both in and out of the water.

These women are setting the standard of excellence in professional surfing. Below are 12 of our favorite images of these incredibly talented women.

Bruna Schmitz

Brazilian surfer Bruna Schmitz traveled to Banff, Canada, for her 2011 photo shoot with Stephan Wurth. The athlete, who started surfing at age 9 and went pro just six years later, competed in the World Surf League’s championship tour in ’10 and ’11.

Alana Blanchard

Alana Blanchard was featured in the 2013 SI Swimsuit Issue when she posed for photographer James Macari in Las Vegas. The Hawai’i native started surfing competitively at the age of 9 and went on to win the women’s shortboard competition at the T&C Pipeline Surf Championships when she was just 15.

Anastasia Ashley

In 2014, Anastasia Ashley jetted to Guana Island for her magazine feature with Adam Franzino. While Ashley picked up surfing at the young age of 5, she won her first major national surfing title at 16 years old.

Malia Manuel

Malia Manuel traveled to Turks and Caicos for her photo shoot with Macari in 2020. Manuel, who grew up in Hawai’i, was the youngest surfer to ever win the U.S. Open of Surfing in ’08 at 14.

Courtney Conlogue

Courtney Conlogue was also photographed by Macari in Turks and Caicos three years ago. She became the youngest athlete to ever be selected to the U.S. Junior Surf Team at the age of 11 in 2004. 

Caroline Marks

Caroline Marks was the third surfer to be featured in the 2020 SI Swimsuit Issue when Macari snapped her photos in Turks and Caicos. Marks, who hails from Florida, made history as one of only two women chosen to represent the United States in the ’20 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
