The nights, and also early afternoons, are going to get tasty again in Santa Monica this summer and fall when a downtown city street is turned into an open-air food and crafts bazaar as 626 Night Market Mini returns to the seaside city.
The 626 Night Market Mini, which is an offshoot of the widely popular 626 Night Market, is coming to the Third Street Promenade area on select Saturdays and Sundays from 1- 10 p.m. July 23 through Oct. 9.
About three dozen food and craft vendors including Cafe 949, Why So Shellfish, Chick N’ Skin and Cheese Wheel Pasta are expected at the free Santa Monica event. There will also be an alcohol garden for attendees 21 years of age and older.
The 626 Night Market, which was named after the San Gabriel Valley area code, is modeled after the night markets in Asia and was first launched in Old Town Pasadena in 2012. The debut event attracted thousands of people with its mix of food, craft and merchandise vendors.
The flagship Market, which includes about 250 vendors, is now held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia and two additional events were added at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa in 2014 and Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton in 2018.
The 626 Night Market Mini meanwhile made its debut in Santa Monica in February.
