Kate Wasley made her SI Swimsuit debut in 2018 with not one, but two, empowering photo shoots. The Australian model posed for photographer Yu Tsai in Aruba and also was featured in an impactful “In Her Own Words” project in a Brooklyn studio with photographer Taylor Ballantyne.

“I never in a million years thought that [posing for SI Swimsuit] was something that I would ever do,” Wasley admitted on location at her rookie photo shoot. “The fact that MJ (Day, SI Swimsuit editor in chief) chose me to be in this magazine is just so special because I’m here for me and not to sell products, and it’s amazing as a plus-size model to be included in something so amazing like this.”

The Sydney-based model continues to work in the industry and uses her platform to take a stance against unrealistic beauty standards while reminding her followers of their worth.

“I think this trip has just been a whirlwind,” Wasley said of her time in Aruba. “I’m still kind of trying to take it all in and process it. Every moment spent here has just been incredible, and I’ve had a smile on my face the entire time and I probably will for the next 20 years.”
