The trailer begins with the Indian team falling apart on the field. At the press conference, Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev declares that they are “here to win,” eliciting laughter from the few reporters in attendance. Pankaj Tripathi, who plays PR Man Singh’s manager, tells Kapil Dev, Captain, we won independence 35 years ago, but we have yet to gain respect.
The Indian team makes an incredible comeback in the second half of the trailer, with Dev hitting sixes after sixes, destroying dressing room windows, glasses, and car windscreens. Deepika Padukone, who plays his wife Romi Dev, is his off-field supporter. The nearly four-minute trailer also features Ammy Virk as Balvinder Singh Sandhu, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, and others.
83, directed by Kabir Khan, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The story is centered on India’s historic World Cup victory in 1983. Ranveer Singh will portray Indian ex-captain Kapil Dev in the film. The cast also includes Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree, and Pankaj Tripathi. Romi, Kapil Dev’s wife, will be played by Deepika Padukone.
The film will be released in theatres in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The project is being worked on by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, Phantom Films, and Reliance Entertainment.
