Many fans loved the NBA during the 90s and believe it’s much different from the modern NBA in 2023, which is very accurate.
But that’s what happens when years go on, and changes come about to make the game better.
While appearing on Showtime for a sitdown interview with NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, NBA commissioner Adam Silver discussed the 90s era of NBA basketball.
“There was a point, I believe, in the late 1990s when the game became too physical,” Silver said. “And I think it de-emphasized the particular skill a player had and maybe weighted too heavily physicality — where a big strong player could come in and prevent an incredibly skilled player from doing those things.”
The NBA is undoubtedly much less physical than it used to be. Some fans like that, while others don’t.
But more importantly, the league continues to grow in popularity which is all that matters.
Silver has been the NBA commissioner since 2014 when he took the reins from David Stern.
