Jeannine Ross posted: “Does she have a fruit bowl? Houseplants? They live and reproduce in drains and soil.

“Having a small jar with a piece of plastic wrap on top, with some holes poked on top, with some apple cider vinegar (or leftover wine) with a drop of dish soap, will attract them, and they will perish.”

Jamie Lee ‘Gruska’ Casey said: “Leaving food out will cause then. You can get fruit fly traps that you pour vinegar in and they can’t get out. Start now because they only multiply.”

Louise De Luca suggested: “I just use a squirt of Morning Fresh dish liquid and apple cider vinegar in a container and leave it where they fly. They go in and can’t get out.”

Apple cider vinegar and white wine vinegar can be bought from supermarkets or online.

Holland & Barrett Organic Apple Cider Vinegar costs £3.29. Apple Cider Vinegar costs £1.60 from Waitrose and Aspall Organic White Wine Vinegar costs £2 from Waitrose.

Sainsbury’s Wine Vinegar costs £1.50, Tesco White Wine Vinegar costs £1.05 and ASDA White Wine Vinegar costs 95p.
