Jamie Carragher feels Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could have done more to stop West Ham’s equaliser in Sunday’s 2-2 draw in east London.
Jarrod Bowen smashed his effort past Ramsdale to secure the Hammers a point in what is a massive blow to Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes.
Ramsdale produced a sensational performance in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool last week and almost single-handedly secured a point for his side.
But he could not replicate those heroics this time around as Carragher shared his opinion on Bowen’s goal while on commentary duties.
‘Gabriel (Magalhaes) just does not know Bowen is there,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports.
‘The ball was more in hope but Gabriel just leaves it. The goalkeeper (Ramsdale) who was fantastic last week, he has got to save that.’
Carragher has also warned Arsenal that they must now beat Manchester City at the Etihad on April 26 to lift their first top-flight title since 2004.
‘You just feel Arsenal are going to have to go to Manchester City and win now if they want to win the title,’ he added.
Fellow pundits Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink shared their views on Arsenal’s season so far following the match.
‘This title race always started at Anfield,’ Neville said. ‘Look at the fixtures.
‘But they would have snapped your hand off to be in this position at the start of the season. Arsenal finishing second would still be an unbelievable season.’
Keane added: ‘No chance. They’ve been top of the table all season. It would be a terrible season.
‘They’re out of every cup competition. 2-0 up this week, 2-0 up today. It’s a huge disappointment.’
Hasselbaink, meanwhile, said: ‘I think when you are Man City and under pressure they perform, they get the job done.
‘They can go the season keep on winning. Arsenal still have to go to Newcastle too.
‘You are not allowed to lose points today. This will hurt more than losing to Man City. The beginning of the season doesn’t matter. To lose is now would be a disaster.’
