Si Jiahui has extended his remarkable first visit to the Crucible by surging into the quarter-finals with a 13-7 win over Robert Milkins at the World Snooker Championship.
The 20-year-old impressed in his opener as he upset Shaun Murphy 10-9 and continued to look great as he dismissed the Milkman.
Si lost the first frame but then won four on the spin, knocking in breaks of 103, 82 and 56 along the way.
He never relented from there on in, maintaining a big lead over the veteran for the rest of the contest and came into the final session on Monday afternoon only needing to win two frames for victory.
The newcomer managed that within four frames, booking his spot in the last eight, where he will meet either Anthony McGill or Jack Lisowski, winning the match with a superb break of 105.
McGill leads that match 11-5 going into their final session on Monday evening.
With another debutant, Jak Jones, also in the quarters, it is the first time two Crucible debutants have reached the last eight since Tony Drago and Steve James in 1988.
The Chinese youngster, based in Sheffield, had only reached one quarter-final in his young career before this week, losing in the last eight at the European Masters at the start of this season.
He has come through five matches to get to the quarters in Sheffield, winning three in qualifying as he downed Florian Nuessle, Tom Ford and Jordan Brown at the English Institute of Sport.
As for Milkins it is the end of an excellent season for the 47-year-old, who memorably won the Welsh Open and secured the huge £150,000 Bet Victor bonus in the process.
He came to the Crucible as a seed for the first time ever and secured an impressive 10-9 win over Joe Perry in his first match, bouncing back from 2-7 behind.
‘I think he played really well from 0-1 down to 3-1 up and that put me a bit on edge, put a bit of pressure on me,’ Milkins told the BBC.
‘After that it was pretty average to tell you the truth, from both. He was obviously a lot better than me, but it was a bit of a shocker from myself.
‘These things happen, I’ve had a great season, felt a bit tired during the game. It’s been a long week, with the interruptions in the first round match, but not excuses.
‘He’s a good player, really good player and I hope he does well in the next round.’
