Becky Hammon has been successful throughout each of her basketball destinations. She was a six-time WNBA All-Star as a player, and won a championship with the Las Vegas last season in her first year as a head coach.
Hammon was so successful that one team is apparently interested in hiring her as a head coach – an NBA team.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Toronto Raptors have been granted permission to speak with Hammon about their head coaching vacancy.
The Raptors are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Nick Nurse. Nurse led the team to its first ever NBA title in 2019 and was named the NBA’s Coach of the Year, but a number of disappointing finishes over the last few seasons have led the Raptors to look elsewhere.
Hammon has coaching experience in the NBA as an assistant with the Spurs, and she’s even been a head coach in an NBA game before.
After Gregg Popovich was ejected from a game in 2020, Hammon stepped in, becoming the first woman in NBA historyto serve as a head coach in the regular season.
Many players, including new Hall of Famer Pau Gasol, have advocated for Hammon to be a head coach in the NBA.
“I’m telling you: Becky Hammon can coach,” Gasol said in a 2018 Player’s Tribune article.
“I’m not saying she can coach pretty well. I’m not saying she can coach enough to get by. I’m not saying she can coach almost at the level of the NBA’s male coaches. I’m saying: Becky Hammon can coach NBA basketball. Period.”
