Dillon Brooks has no regrets.
That’s what the Memphis Grizzlies forward said about LeBron James after the Los Angeles Lakers knocked them out of the 2023 NBA playoffs.
“That’s who I am,” Brooks said. “I compete. I don’t think it got LeBron ‘geeked’ up. He was ready.”
During the series, Brooks took aim at James, calling the future Hall of Famer old and that he doesn’t anyone until they gave him 40 points.
The Lakers went on to win the series in 4-2 beating the Grizzlies in six games. Brooks struggled after his comments, shooting 31.2 percent from the field and 24 percent from long distance.
While James was good (outside of Game 5), averaging 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists on 49 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range.
Brooks’ comment didn’t age well or help him play better, but his confidence is something that deserves respect.
