NEW DELHI: Seasoned India and Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami rolled back the years as he came up with a sensational spell of swing bowling to claim four wickets inside Powerplay against Delhi Capitals (DC) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Opting to bat, DC – whose IPL 2023 campaign is already in doldrums – had a horrible start as Shami sent back opener Phil Salt for a golden duck on the very first delivery of the innings.

Salt joined Prabhsimran Singh of Punjab Kings and RCB’s Virat Kohli in the list of batters who got out on the first delivery of the match this season so far.

Shami, who returned his best-ever IPL figures of 4/11 in 4 overs, soon rocked DC’s top order, claiming the wickets of Rilee Rossouw (8), Manish Pandey (1) and Priyam Garg (10) in his first three overs.

DC also created an unwanted record of becoming the first team to lose five wickets inside Powerplay in the ongoing season as they also lost skipper David Warner for 2 in a run-out mess in the middle.
With 12 wickets, Shami also leads the chart of the bowlers with the most wickets in Powerplay this season followed by Mohammed Siraj (8), Trent Boult (7) and Arshdeep Singh (6).
