Though everyone’s after-party gameplan varied (there were about 10 Met Gala after-parties to see and be seen at!), everyone’s first stop was the Karl Lagerfeld bash at The Mark Hotel—a property which most Met Gala guests call home on the First Monday in May. There, Maison Karl Lagerfeld (the late designer’s eponymous line, now helmed by Hun Kim) and The Karl Lagerfeld Macau hosted a post-gala bash on the hotel’s ground floor, The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges.

For the occasion, the space had been transformed from an elegant eatery to Karl Lagerfeld celebration. Taking it all in were notable party guests Cara Delevingne (who recently teamed up with the label with her Cara Loves Karl collection) and friend of the brand, Amber Valletta (who has advised on sustainable practices). Both must have turned up and found themselves in great company—and not just because there were larger-than-life-sized Lagerfeld figurines that made for excellent photo ops. Another big photo moment was the arrival of Jared Leto, who seemed (to borrow the title of the latest project of party attendee Michelle Yeoh) everywhere, everywhere, all at once last night. He turned up at nearly all of the after-party with his cat head in tow, to great fanfare.

More of the party’s luminous guests included Alton Mason, Brian Tyree Henry, and Manu Rios. Divine as ever, Carla Bruni (who gave opening remarks earlier that morning at the Costume Institute’s press preview for “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”) was also there. It was the perfect setting to kick off the first Monday in May as it quickly turned into the first Tuesday.
