Benzema was especially key to this year’s Copa del Rey success. Even if he didn’t score in the 2-1 victory over CA Osasuna in Saturday’s final, he netted important and impressive goals along the way.

He scored in extra time against Atlético de Madrid in the quarter-finals and then netted a hat-trick against FC Barcelona in the semi-final second leg at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Benzema, who won the Ballon d’Or recently, has been in immense form this season as well. The France international has already netted 17 goals in 21 appearances in the league, just 2 behind Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski.
The 35-year-old is now the club captain at the Bernabéu, so had the honour of lifting the Copa del Rey himself. He is proving to be the perfect leader in the dressing room, bringing experience to the table but also connecting perfectly with the many youngsters in Los Blancos’ squad, such as Saturday’s two-goal hero Rodrygo.
After Saturday’s Copa del Rey final victory, Benzema was presented with a special Real Madrid shirt with the number 25 on the back. At the same time, he received praise from teammates and from his coach Carlo Ancelotti.
“It is an honour to present this to you, you’re the best,” Ancelotti told Benzema as he handed over the commemorative jersey.
For the veteran striker, lifting the Copa del Rey was particularly special given that his very first title with Real Madrid was also a Copa del Rey, back in 2011.
