A SCOTS village has been named one of TripAdvisor’s most popular summer destinations – and it’s just an hour from Glasgow.

Balmaha, situated on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond, came in at number four in the travel site’s top 10 fastest-growing destinations in the UK this year.

The second Seasonal Travel Index of 2023 provides insight into travel demand this season (June 1 – August 31), using a combination of search and sentiment data.

Balmaha is an essential stop for West Highland Way walkers and is home to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs’ National Park Visitor Centre.

It is a great base for climbing Conic Hill and exploring the island of Inchcailloch.

Visitors can choose to stay there overnight at the National Park run campsite.

The Highland Boundary fault runs through Balmaha and across Loch Lomond, which can best be appreciated from the summit of Conic Hill.

Other waterbus services from Balmaha can take you to Luss on the western shore of Loch Lomond, avoiding the traffic on the roads.

The TripAdvisor study found that two in five people (43%) intend to travel more this summer than last, with 79% planning up to two holidays.

When it comes to where they are going, over a third (37%) will take both international and domestic trips, while a similar number (32%) will only travel abroad.

The remainder (31%) will make the most of the warmer weather at home, holidaying exclusively in the UK.

Alice Jong, Research and Insights Senior Analyst at TripAdvisor said: “With so many eager to get away this summer, early planning and booking are vital to secure preferred accommodations, flights, and experiences.

“With many consumers conscious of cost in the current climate, a little flexibility during the planning process can help to drive down the price of their trips.”
