The root cause. Tori Spelling finally found the reason she and her family have been frequently sick and in the hospital over the past few months.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, 49 — who shares sons Liam, 16, Finn, 10, and Beau, 6, and daughters Stella, 14, and Hattie, 11 with husband Dean McDermott — took to Instagram on Wednesday, May 10, where she got candid about her kids’ most recent hospitalization and the worrisome cause of it. (McDermott, 56, is also father of son Jack, 24, whom he shares with ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace.)
“Let’s talk about MOLD …,” the Scary Movie 2 star began her lengthy caption, alongside photos of her, Hattie, Finn and Beau at an urgent care center in Thousand Oaks, California.
“Here we are again at Urgent Care. We’ve all been on this continual spiral of sickness for months. Sick. Get better. To get sick again,” she continued. “Used to think … well that’s what happens when you have young kids in school. They just continually bring sicknesses home. But, when it gets to the point where they are at home sick more than being in school we had to reassess what was going on. Kids will be kids but when you have your youngest (10 and 6) so sick they are sleeping all day and say they feel dizzy even standing I knew something bigger was going on.”
Spelling revealed that a mold inspector found “extreme mold” in her home — which opened her eyes to what was causing her family’s frequent illnesses: “mold sickness.”
“Has anyone ever been thru Mold Infections? You just keep getting sick, one infection after another. Respiratory infections. Extreme allergy like symptoms too and like my poor Finn skin rashes as well,” the True Tori alum explained. “As we sit here today in Urgent Care … watching everyone getting swabbed and first up Finn with Strep throat ✅and high fever of 103. We now know that when the house was labeled a health hazard and not live able that wording was FACT. We now GET IT!”
Spelling, McDermott and their children are planning to “vacate the home asap,” despite just how “hard [it is] to just uproot a huge family especially in the midst of all feeling so sick and in bed.” The Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? star added that she and her family plan to move in the “[imminent] future.”
Tori’s mother, Candy Spelling, expressed her concern for the McDermott family in the comments of her daughter’s post. “OMG I can’t believe how horrendous this is. I am so sorry!” she penned. “Wow no wonder how sick you’ve all been month after month after month.????. Love you all❣️.”
Tori has long kept fans up to date with the family’s relentless illnesses via social media. In December 2022, she revealed that her youngest son, Beau, was “out 3 weeks sick from school” — only to get sick once again. “Finally got him well and back in school all last week and boom now sick again!” she wrote at the time. “The next day, the reality star revealed that Liam and Finn were also suffering from illness.
Later that month, Tori clapped back at Instagram trolls after her own hospitalization caused haters to claim she was faking her illnesses.
“Here I am in [the] hospital since late last night. To all of you who gas lit me when you were told I [was] too sick to work, well here I am,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself holding a peace sign up from her hospital bed. “How about next time [you] take someone at face value and show kindness instead of doubtfulness.”
Tori noted in the caption that she was “low on oxygen” and was having a “hard time breathing, [with] high blood pressure and crazy dizziness.”
