Grizzlies star Ja Morant was suspended by his own team this week for flashing a gun on Instagram Live. This is the second time he has done this in the past two months.
Former NFL star Cam Newton recently offered his thoughts on Morant’s troubling situation.
Newton said he’s not blaming Morant for this situation. Instead, he’s blaming the All-Star guard’s inner circle for not keeping him in check.
“When I see Ja, I don’t blame him,” Newton said. “I blame the homeboy, the dad, girlfriend, any partner that’s around at any given point in time.”
That’s not all the former MVP had to say about Morant’s friends and family.
“This is the issue. You got guys in the entourage that really want to be the dude. So, watch out. I’m talking to the homeboy, the homegirl, the girlfriend, the brother, the sister that see a monster and you don’t say s–t,” Newton explained. “He’s got $20 million a year on the line that’s in jeopardy, just to keep his nose clean? You’re goddamn right it’s my job to protect this guy.”

Morant already missed out on making an All-NBA team this season because he was suspended eight games for his first gun-related incident. That cost him $39 million in future earnings.
The NBA is expected to hand Morant a severe penalty for being a repeat offender.
