The battle intensifies big time as it will be the last league game for both teams. There is almost nothing to separate between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings except NRR. By virtue of that, RR (NRR: +0.140) are sitting 6th, whereas PBKS (NRR: -0.308) are 8th in the table.

Punjab Kings will take on Rajasthan Royals today. This is one of the most entertaining ties in IPL history as it often produces pulse-racing final ball encounters. But that may not help either teams this time around.
Punjab Kings need a Massive win to stay afloat
After RCB’s win over SRH on Thursday, Punjab Kings will have to win by a massive margin to get to the playoffs. If they score 180 runs with bat, they will have to win by 126 runs to overtake RCB’s NRR. Similarly, they will have to chase down 180 runs in a mere 6.4 overs for the same. Hence it is an uphill task for the PBKS side.
The Kings would have to choose to bat and try and impose a massive total of 200+ runs to give themselves any chance for the playoffs. Or they will have to get as close as possible towards RCB’s run rate, and then hope Gujarat Titans beat RCB in their last league game by a margin which would lower RCB’s NRR than theirs.
Rajasthan Royals in must-win territory
Rajasthan Royals have a simpler equation for the match. They need to win at any cost against PBKS then hope RCB and MI lose their respective matches. RR’s NRR is better than MI, but inferior to RCB.
Their 112-run defeat at the hands of RCB has massively dented the NRR and Sanju Samson’s team will require a victory of around 12 run margin if they score 180, to overtake RCB’s NRR. They have won only twice in their last 8 IPL matches this season. And they can’t afford to lose the final one.
A Defeat means it’s Over
The defeat of either team will end their quest this year. And if the match gets abandoned, both teams will be eliminated. So we will at least get one eliminated team at the end of the day.
