The Spurs won the NBA Draft Lottery earlier this week, putting them in position to select French phenom Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick.
Wembanyama is considered a generational talent. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski recently referred to him as the “greatest prospect in the history of team sports.”
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s NBA Radio, Charles Barkley offered his thoughts on Wembanyama’s future.
Instead of hyping Wembanyama up, Barkley talked about the challenges he’ll face during his first year with the Spurs.
“First of all, the Spurs ain’t close to winning a championship, young fella,” Barkley said. “Y’all probably ain’t gonna make the playoffs next year. This notion that just because you have all this hype and you’ve been kicking ass in France all these years, that don’t mean nothing when you step on the court next year.”

Barkley said the Spurs will probably be the “third-best team in Texas” next season.
The Spurs finished the 2022-23 season with a 22-60 record. Wembanyama will – at the very least – give the fan base something to look forward to.
