Congress leader Digvijaya Singh is once again in the limelight on social media. A video of him is currently going viral on social media where he can be heard commenting on eating beef.
In this video, Digvijaya Singh is saying that there is nothing wrong with eating beef. He also said that cows lie in their own feces, so they can’t be called mothers. It is being claimed that Digvijaya Singh made such comments about cattle in the media.
Social media users are taking this opportunity to criticize him and Congress and tag him as Anti-Hindu politician.
However, Fact Crescendo found the viral claim to be misleading. In this video, Digvijaya Singh was quoting Savarkar and not giving his opinion.
Fact Check-
To find out the fact of the viral claim, we searched for the viral video on YouTube. As a result, we got an extended version of this video on Republic India channel on 26th December. On 25 December 2021, a public awareness campaign meeting was held by the Congress at Narmada Temple Bhavan in Tulsi Nagar, Bhopal. Digvijaya Singh addressed that gathering.
In this extended video, from 1.40 minutes to 2.22 minutes, Digvijaya Singh can be heard saying, “Veer Savarkar had written in his book that Hinduism has nothing to do with Hindutva and had also written that a cow is an animal that rolls over on its own feces, what kind of mother can she be? There is nothing wrong with eating beef. This is what Savarkar himself said.”
This means, Digvijaya Singh was not giving his opinion on eating beef and cow being called as mother. He was simply quoting Veer Savarkar. Incomplete video was shared to defame Digvijaya Singh and Congress and tag them as Anti-Hindu political party.
According to a report by India Today on 26 December 2021, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh targeted Savarkar saying that he did not accept cows as mother and had no objection to eating beef. He also said that Savarkar wrote in his book that Hinduism has nothing to do with Hindutva.
After this speech of Digvijaya Singh, BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma said that Digvijaya Singh is a great leader who works day and night to humiliate Hindus. He made false statements against Savarkar and other great leaders.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found that the viral video is incomplete. In the original video, Digvijaya Singh was quoting from a book written by Savarkar in which he had mentioned that it is not wrong to eat beef. In the video, Digvijay Singh is not giving his opinion on beef and Hinduism.
