This announcement solidifies Ford’s earlier plans to split its business into three categories: Ford Blue, Ford Model e, and Ford Pro. Ford Blue encompasses gas-powered trucks, SUVs, and cars like the Mustang. Then, Ford Model e covers the electric side of the lineup. And finally, Ford Pro supports businesses and people in the trades.
Currently, three-row EV options are on the higher end of the price bracket, with the seven-seater Tesla Model Y starting at $53,490. As for the affordability end of the spectrum, it’s yet to be seen how the new Ford will compete with upcoming affordable EV SUVs like the Chevy Equinox EV (it’s worth noting that the Equinox has been announced as a five-seater). With the demise of the Chevy Bolt, there are very few affordable new EVs currently on the market, and precisely zero with three rows of seats.
