What to Stream on Hulu June 2023

First up: A documentary about some of the perils of living online kicks things off.

The Age of Influence: Complete Season 1 (June 5)
Billed as a look at the “dark side of influencer culture,” this series examines the stories of grifters, online feuds, and other instances of social media drama.

Stars on Mars (June 6)
If nothing else this new unscripted series has novelty for it. A bunch of celebrities — a group that includes everyone from Modern Family’s Ariel Winter to NFL great Richard Sherman — compete to colonize Mars (or at least a detailed simulation of the red planet). William Shatner presides over the competition.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 16 Premiere (June 7)
The long-running sitcom returns for a sixteenth season with two episodes, one involving inflatable furniture. What could go wrong?

Flamin’ Hot (June 9)
Did Richard Montañez really invent Flamin’ Hot Cheetos for Frito-Lay, the company where he worked as a janitor? The facts of that story have been disputed, but perhaps they shouldn’t get in the way of a good story either way. Eva Longoria makes her feature directing debut with this account of the Montañez story starring Jesse Garcia.

Dune (June 10)
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune felt like a big gamble in 2021 given that this film only adapts half of Frank Herbert’s novel and that it wasn’t even clear if it would do well enough to earn a sequel. It all worked out. The film was good and the sequel is set to arrive later this year. Here’s a chance to catch up in case you missed it.

The Full Monty (June 14)
Picking up 25 years after the events of the hit 1997 film about a bunch of working class Sheffield men who discover the joys of stripping, this eight-episode series reunites much of the original cast (including Robert Carlyle, Tom Wilkinson, and Mark Addy). Are the they still taking off their clothes for cheering crowds? Tune in and find out.

Chevalier (June 16)
Released earlier this year, this biopic about the life of Joseph Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) depicts his tumultuous time in the court of Marie-Antoinette where he encountered acclaim and prejudice as the French Revolution loomed. Stephen Williams directs from a script by Stefani Robinson, best known for penning outstanding episodes of Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows.

The Bear: Complete Season 2 (June 22)
Last year’s breakout hit The Bear about the extremely dramatic goings on at a Chicago beef sandwich restaurant with lofty culinary ambitions returns for a second season that adds Bob Odenkirk to the cast.

Trending

Infinity Pool (June 23)
Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgård star in Brandon Cronenberg’s third feature, the story of a trip to an all-inclusive resort goes horribly awry. Like Cronenberg’s previous work it’s memorably disturbing and takes a bunch of strange left turns.

Barbarian (June 25)
But not as many strange left turns as this 2022 hit written and directed by Zach Cregger. Georgina Campbell stars as a woman who travels to Detroit for a job interview and finds herself unexpectedly sharing a rental house with a stranger (Bill Skarsgård) who also booked it. From there, well, the less you know the better.
