Jerry West told an absolutely crazy story during a recent podcast appearance.
Back in 2004, West was the general manager of the Memphis Grizzlies and had a meeting with Kobe Bryant and his agent Rob Pelinka. Bryant wanted to come play for the Grizzlies but West admitted that he told him not to.
“He became a free agent and his agent then was Rob Pelinka. So, I met them in Orange County in a hotel room and he said he wanted to come to Memphis to play. I looked at him and said, are you kidding me? I said you belong somewhere out here,” West said.

This has NBA fans pretty upset since the Grizzlies had a chance to bring Bryant in and West shot it down.
And you're saying this now, Jerry West?! https://t.co/PZvpVUTrcB pic.twitter.com/hnHuHETLlZ

“For the good that Jerry West did Memphis basketball, hearing that breaks my heart. Kobe on the Grizzlies would’ve been major,” another tweet read.

Jerry West was literally the GM and could've made it happen but decided to put us all through hell to stay loyal to the Lakers… https://t.co/usTY8qj4yq

Bryant went on to have one heck of a career with the Lakers before he retired in 2016. He won five NBA championships and averaged 25 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
