That is the opinion of Manchester United legend Andy Cole, who says the arrival of Rice or Caicedo at the Emirates Stadium would boost Arsenal’s title chances.
For several months of the 2022-23 campaign it appeared as though Arsenal would lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004.
But a wobble during the run-in – coupled with Manchester City’s sensational form – saw Pep Guardiola’s side secure the title for the third year in a row and Arsenal finish second.
Mikel Arteta intends to bolster his squad in north London this summer as he prepares for another title push and Arsenal’s return to the Champions League.
The Gunners are reportedly closing in on a £100m deal for Rice and Cole believes signing the West Ham midfielder – or Brighton’s Caicedo – would be a huge coup for Arsenal.
Rice has been West Ham’s most important player in recent years and is expected to be sold after helping the Hammers avoid relegation and win the Europa Conference League last season.
Caicedo – who Arsenal made several bids for in January – also looks set for a summer move amid interest from the Gunners, Chelsea and Manchester City.
‘If Arsenal brought in one of them then that would definitely improve them enough to challenge next season,’ Old Trafford hero Cole told Punters.Pub.
‘I’m not sure what the price tag is on both of them. But I think Moises Caicedo is a fantastic player, I really do.
‘He bosses games for Brighton, who played some real good stuff this season. If he’s £80m, I’m not quite sure why Declan Rice should be £100m.
‘In the end it comes down to who Mikel Arteta thinks is going to make Arsenal better, whether or not he thinks that they could bring Arsenal closer to winning the Premier League. We’ll have to wait and see.’
