The Warriors made a significant change to their roster this week, trading Jordan Poole to the Wizards in exchange for veteran point guard Chris Paul.

Poole’s stint with the Warriors was pretty much doomed from the moment Draymond Green punched him during practice last year. That being said, he did sign a four-year, $123 million extension with Golden State prior to this trade.

Speaking to the media Friday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr commented on the team’s recent trade.

Kerr claims the Warriors “needed a shift” heading into this summer. Apparently, they did just that by trading away Poole.

“But the biggest point is that we sensed we needed a shift,” Kerr said. “Didn’t mean we needed an overhaul, but we needed a shift of some sort. I think everybody in the organization sensed that. And it feels like we’ve made a pretty significant shift without giving up our identity and our sense of who we are as a team. I think, all in all, it’s a very positive shift.”

Trading away Poole could hurt the Warriors in the long run. For now though, they’re focused on winning another title with their current core of veterans.

If Paul stays healthy, he’ll help the Warriors contend for a title.
