POLL: Would you consider switching to an electric vehicle now?

As the UK approaches the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles as part of the UK’s drive to meet net zero emissions, more Britons are looking at making the switch to an electric vehicle (EV).

Despite some people having reservations about the cost and reliability of EVs, managing director at V12 Sports and Classics, Farhad Tailor, has claimed that they are “far more reliable” than those with internal combustion engines.

He exclusively told Express.co.uk: “Based on our experience, there are far less things that go wrong with an EV.

“For customers, they are far more reliable and cost-effective to maintain than an internal combustion engine vehicle. A typical annual service can take as little as half an hour as it just involves a visual check.”

Several motorists have already made the change with data from Zapmap showing that as of the end of last month, there are over 780,000 fully electric cars on UK roads and 500,000 plug-in hybrids.

Additionally, the EV charging locater app’s research found that 23.1 percent of all new cars sold in May 2023 were either fully electric or plug-in hybrid.

Yet concerns have been raised about whether the UK has the infrastructure of EV chargers to facilitate the shift, with as many as one in three households set to be reliant on public chargers.

The FairCharge campaign, RAC and the AA are all calling for the Government to build an affordable, reliable and fit-for-purpose network of chargers across the UK. They are also urging Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to cut the VAT on public charging to be cut to five percent to match the levy on domestic electricity.

So what about YOU? Would you consider switching to an EV now? Vote in our poll and leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
