Former NBA head coach and longtime game analyst Jeff Van Gundy was one of the most shocking victims of ESPN’s extensive layoffs on Friday.

Van Gundy, 61, spent the last 16 years at ESPN and had been part of the network’s No. 1 broadcasting team alongside play-by-play man Mike Breen and fellow analyst Mark Jackson.

According to a report from Andrew Marchand and Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, Doris Burke, JJ Redick and Richard Jefferson are all potential options to replace Van Gundy should ESPN look internally.

If they go outside of the company, Doc Rivers is reportedly a possibility.

“Doc Rivers could be an outside choice; especially if his salary demands are offset by what the Sixers still owe him after firing him as their coach,” Marchand and Glasspiegel wrote. “Rivers is very close with Breen.”

Rivers, 61, was let go by the Philadelphia 76ers after the team lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the third time in his three seasons as head coach.

In 23-plus seasons as an NBA head coach with the Sixers, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic, Rivers has amassed an overall regular season record of 1,097-763 with 19 playoff appearances, two trips to the NBA Finals and an NBA championship in 2008 with Boston.
