A new study conducted by Britain’s leading motoring organisation AA revealed the top destinations for campervan enthusiasts to visit this summer.
According to the analysis, York is the top destination for campervan trips this year, after taking into consideration the number of campsites accepting campervans and nearby family activities for kids.
In second and third place were Portsmouth and Birmingham, with a high number of nearby National Trust sites and family activities.
Birmingham also scored well for the number of car parks available to stop at while exploring the city.
Bristol and Poole are also two of the best destinations for a campervan holiday this summer, according to the car experts.
In York, holidaymakers can visit York Minster and York City Walls or head to the York Maze for a fun day with the family.
On Tripadvisor, a traveller said that the cathedral is a “majestic building to behold”. They explained: “We didn’t actually enter York Minster, no need to, it was absolutely amazing to see it from the outside! Beautiful, amazing, majestic building! Wonderful experience, beautiful grounds too… so peaceful.”
Another one explained that visiting York City Walls was a “lovely experience”. They added: “Beautiful and scenic views and fun people. I highly recommend this experience best.”
The experts at AA shared their top tips for exploring the UK by campervan to ensure “a seamless road trip” this summer, including:
- Know where you’re pitching up
- Be aware of weight and speed limits
- Take notice of your mirrors
- Think about the temperature
- Save power/fuel when you can
