As per Sportstar, Avesh Khan hurt his right shoulder while attempting to take a catch for Central Zone as he collided with his teammate Rinku Singh. The incident happened during the opening session of the match and was subbed off during the second session for treatment.
The 26-year-old pacer didn’t field for the rest of the day and opted out of the Day 2 session as well while skipping the warm-up drills in the morning. He bowled 11 overs earlier on Tuesday while taking a wicket of Het Patel.
Avesh Khan’s injury came right before he was named in India’s T20 squad for the West Indies series as he made a comeback in the shortest format for the national side after a gap of almost a year.
While the gravity of his injury is yet to be known, the fast bowler, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants and Madhya Pradesh in the domestic circuit, may have time to recover as the T20 series doesn’t start before August 3. The opening Test match of the West Indies tour gets underway on July 12.
Avesh Khan’s selection comes after the BCCI’s new selection team took charge under Ajit Agarkar as the chief selector for their first assignment. The pacer, who had an off-colour IPL with just eight wickets in nine games and struggled to keep his spot in the LSG line-up as well, was ignored for selection in the other formats by the previous selection committee.
Avesh Khan, who last played for India back in August in a T20I against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup, has done well with the red ball for Madhya Pradesh in the domestic circuit last season.
