The England international’s acrimonious exit was rubber stamped earlier this week after Unitedcaved to Chelsea’s demands and agreed a £60million deal to secure the signing of the 24-year-old.
Mount issued an emotional farewell message on Instagram prior to confirmation of his defection in which he stressed the decision to move to a direct rival was his and his alone.
The Chelsea academy graduate has since revealed that he took the painstaking decision to leave his boyhood club after it became clear he was not part of Chelsea’s long-term plans.
New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, who was reportedly keen for Mount to remain at Stamford Bridge, addressed the midfielder’s departure at his official unveiling yesterday and was keen to stress the focus should now centre on the future and players who are firmly committed to his rebuilding project.
Fans, however, are likely to find it hard to move on immediately given the footage that emerged from the United dressing room on Friday.
Sitting in the home dressing room Mount’s father dad revealed that he brought his son to the stadium when he was a youngster.
‘Mason…this dressing room man….home mate, HOME,’ Tony Mount can be heard saying. ‘Who would have thought aye, when I brought you up here as a little boy…’
Mount replied: ‘I know. Special isn’t it.’
Those comments did not go down well at all with Chelsea fans who now consider him a traitor.
‘He’s now officially in the Courtois books by the way,’ wrote one fan who compared him to their former goalkeeper who left for Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 and has been booed on his every return to west London.
Another Chelsea fan suggested that Mount supported United growing up and that his connection with Chelsea isn’t as strong as had been suggested.
They wrote: ‘Mount is starting to look a bit silly saying he was forced out with the comments made from him and his dad. It’s coming through that they supported United growing up and this Mr Chelsea persona will quickly wear off on a lot of people. “Home”’.
Another fan suggested Mount should be booed when he plays against Chelsea. They wrote: ‘Yeah I’m now cool with boos. He’s genuinely up there with the worst.’
