Restaurant: Impossible Host Robert Irvine Responds After Food Network Cancellation

Celebrity chef Robert Irvine says he won’t return for a 23rd season of Restaurant: Impossible at Food Network, explaining to his fans online that the network sees him as “old news.” With Irvine serving as the shot, Restaurant: Impossible originally launched on Food Network in 2011. It went on hiatus in 2015 before returning on Food Network in 2019. Overall, the show has spanned 22 seasons, with Season 22 concluding on the network in April of this year.

In a new series of posts on Twitter, Irvine reveals that Restaurant: Impossible has apparently been canceled. In response to one fan tweeting that “[Robert Irvine] = Ratings,” Irvine says that Restaurant: Impossible is a “GREAT” series, but it’s just not in line with that Food Network execs want for their programming any longer. In any case, he also suggests he will continue to assist people who need his help, with or without the TV series.

“I’m old news and although the show is a GREAT show that helps small business and families /communities it’s not a show that they believe fits into who or what they want or the younger viewers like,” Irvine says. “I really have no idea, all I know is [I] will come to help all those in need regardless.”

Clarifying that the show is indeed finished and not coming back for Season 23, Irvine tweeted to another fan, “I don’t think any amount of fans telling [Food Network] to bring it back will do anything to change their mind. They have a different idea of what the viewers want and [Restaurant: Impossible] isn’t in that… so we will move on and see what happens next… when I know I will let you know.”

“No [the show isn’t coming back] unfortunately but we’re working on other things so stay tuned folks,” he said to someone else, reiterating that Restaurant: Impossible is finished.

What’s Next for Robert Irvine?

While it would appear that Restaurant: Impossible is done, it also seems that Irvine has something else up his sleeve. While not getting specific, he’s teasing that he has something else that’s already in the works. In response to another fan lamenting the cancellation of the show, Irvine thanked them for watching while offering another tease of what’s to come next.

“As I said I have no idea why it has stopped but.. there is a reason for everything and who knows wink wink what’s next,” Irvine said.

Restaurant: Impossible would follow Irvine as he would arrive at a failing American restaurant with a $10,000 budget contributed toward renovations. The goal is to improve the menu and dining experience to help bring up business before the restaurant is forced to close. The show had found its audience, and many fans had even criticized the announcement to move the show to Discovery+ in 2021. Because of that feedback, the show stayed on Food Network, though that may have been the beginning of the end.
