Taylor Swift fans in the UK crashed the Ticketmaster website yesterday in a frenzy to buy tickets for the star’s upcoming Eras Tour.
Pre-sale tickets for two shows at London’s Wembley Stadium and three shows in Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium were available from 11am.
Fans of the pop star, called Swifties, were hoping to bag a ticket on a first-come-first-serve basis.
But technical glitches on Ticketmaster, caused by the overwhelming mass of Swifties flocking to the site, meant many were left feeling hard-done-by and ticketless.
Thousands of fans were also kicked out of the queue of more than 20,000 people.
Ticketmaster and ticketing company AXS released tickets for two shows at a time in three waves due to concerns that high demand would crash their sites. These fears came true with one fan tweeting ahead of the sales:
“Five devices, multiple accounts, floor plans, codes, passwords, multiple cards and I’m still scared it won’t be enough.”
Another fan wrote: “That was great Ticketmaster, got in to buy tickets for my daughter – a massive, massive fan – and just as I got in you kicked me out with an error.”
Seated tickets at Ms Swift’s Wembley show cost up to £194.75, standing tickets are £172.25 and VIP packages ranged from £196 to £662.40.
Other fans claimed they were given the opportunity to purchase tickets but thought the process was a sham because the only available seats cost more than £600 each.
Only those who signed up and received a unique access code could get their tickets for the five shows on sale.
They were limited to purchasing four tickets per transaction and could only buy for the city they received the access code for.
The queue for the first batch of Edinburgh and London tickets was more than two hours long and many fans were turned away – hoping to try at the next wave at 1pm.
General sale tickets will be available to purchase next week.
