Spain travel warning as Britons to face soaring temperatures in top hotspots

Spain is one of the UK’s leading holiday destinations but tourists have been issued a weather warning for the popular hotspot.

The British Government issued a warning on its travel advice page as temperatures could soar to 45 degrees in some parts of Spain.

The update said: “Extreme temperatures are currently affecting many areas of Spain. For severe weather warnings and updates, visit the Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMET) and European Meteorological Services website.

“You should check with your travel provider before travelling and follow the advice of local authorities at all times.”

Temperatures have soared above 40 degrees in the southern Spanish city of Granada while Seville is also set to see temperatures in the 40s this week.

Madrid has also seen high temperatures while other countries including Italy and Greece have been affected.

The extreme weather is due to the Cerberus heatwave. It’s caused by high pressure trapped over the southern Mediterranean.

Clouds of Saharan dust are also worsening conditions while unusually high sea surface temperatures are causing issues.

Ruben del Campo, a meteorologist from Spain’s national weather agency, has predicted that the current hot weather will end on Wednesday.

He said the team expected temperatures to fall then with the arrival of cool winds from the north and east.

However, this won’t be the case in the top destination, southern Andalusia, where hot winds could cause temperatures to soar.
