Here’s the exact nail polish Margot Robbie wore in that Barbie shoe scene

The Barbie movie press rollout has been packed with plenty of memorable moments, but none has been more internet-breaking than the very first glimpse of Margot Robbie stepping out of Barbie’s shoes on tiptoe with perfectly arched feet. The now iconic scene went viral, with everyone from Shay Mitchell to Dua Lipa attempting to re-create the movie magic.

Robbie recently shared in an interview that she didn’t use a foot double and it took only eight takes to get the scene right. Double-sided sticky tape held down her shoes, while she grabbed onto a bar for balance.

As for Barbie’s perfect doll feet, the film’s makeup and hair artist Ivana Primorac told GLAMOUR she had a few options in mind for getting the look right. “That was interesting because, obviously, it was scripted and part of the doll thing,” Primorac said. “I thought it was so clever in the script that they’re always on tippy-toes. When her feet go flat, suddenly the story begins. So we always knew we were going to have to shoot that moment and the scenes that follow. We did it and thought, If Margot’s feet don’t look great enough, we have to think of something.”

In the end, the final shot is a combination of body makeup and Robbie’s natural beauty, which required no editing. “We had the special body makeup made for Margot to suit the skin,” Primorac says. “She was very good at keeping her feet up arched by herself, and suddenly it became evident that her feet are pretty perfect. While we were shooting, I said, ‘If need be, I’ll give Greta notes to remember in the edit that they can tidy up things. So we all agreed and were relaxed about it. We shot the footage, and once we looked at it, it was actually perfect.”

Body makeup was key to creating the perfect Barbie-doll look. Primorac designed custom body and face makeup for each actor, which was executed by their own individual hair and makeup teams. “I was worried about the heel and the toe and the wrinkle in the toe, but we finished her feet so nicely with all the body makeup and colour,” she said. “None of us have even skin colour, our skin colour varies slightly, and once we did that her feet became so perfect.” For the nail polish, she used Naked by Glossify.

Primorac also made sure to exfoliate and moisturise the skin to get the perfect pedicure, while Robbie stuck to a skincare regimen to cut down her time in the makeup chair. “The skin matches all over,” she said. “It’s not plastic necessarily, but it’s all nicely finished. The elbows, knees, and heels—those clunky things like the soles of your feet, when they get a bit dry and dirty—dolls don’t have that. So we paid extra attention to that, rather than making any of our cast members look plastic and fake.”

Naked by Glossify is currently sold out, but you can get the look by shopping similar Barbie-movie nail polishes below.
